My Dream Interview
Earlier today, in our small groups, I mentioned that my dream interview would be with Kerri Strug during the 1996 Olympics after her amazing performace on the vault. Below are two clips of the event. The 1st one that appears is with Dominique Moceaneu who, at a perfect 4ft 2in, was also injured prepping for the Olympics and fell twice. Moceaneu was amazing on the balance beam but the amount of stress she had to put on her right leg (pulled muscle during practice) cut into the time she had to perfect her performance on the Vault. Although her clip is in another language you can pull from the tone of the announcers that they too were shocked that she wasn't able to fully execute her landing and that her falls would be a devastating blow to the American team. The 2nd clip is of Kerri Strug who was injured at least a week before the Olympics. Her history on theVault was reputtable to say the least but the intensity of the 1996 Olympics rivals that almost of the 1980 Hockey competition between the U.S. and Russia. Better than watching her nail her 2nd attempt on the Vault is seeing the relief and appreciation of the Magnificent Seven after they received their gold medals. If I wasn't afraid of heights, losing a tooth, blisters, very loud coaches, hand stands, cartwheels, talcum powder and large, dome-like arenas....I would've been inspired to become a gymnast.
